Ramen is meant to be “slurped” when it is eaten. Ramen is served very hot and is best eaten when the noodles and the broth haven’t separated from each other.
This gives you a ten minuted window to eat it when it tastes the very best. Most people don’t realize it is best eaten quickly and slurped up, and may avoid trying it this way to show proper “table manners.”
To get the most out of your bowl of ramen, all 5 senses should be engaged, included the sense of sound by slurping.
The “Proper” Way to Eat Ramen
Step 1
Smell and breath in the complex aroma of the dish.
Step 2
Bring the noodles high above the bowl ready to be “slurped.”
Step 3
Open your mouth to an “O” shape and “slurp” up the hot noodles right into your mouth. Don’t be afraid to place your head right over the bowl.
Step 4
Slurp up the remaining ingredients in the bowl while they are still hot, especially the broth.
Step 5
Show the chef your appreciation by drinking up the entire bowl of broth.
